Our Programs
At Hearts and Hands Food Pantry, our mission is deeply rooted in serving our community with compassion and dedication.
We understand the profound impact that food insecurity can have on individuals and families, not only in terms of physical health but also on emotional well-being and overall quality of life. That is why we are committed to breaking down barriers and providing a lifeline of support to those who need it most.
Through our various initiatives, including our Community Fridges and Mobile Food Pantry, we are actively working to bridge the gap between food scarcity and abundance. By fostering partnerships within our community and leveraging resources effectively, we aim to create sustainable solutions that address the root causes of hunger and promote food sovereignty
Emergency Food Assistance
Pickup
Our emergency food pickup service, launched in 2017, offers curbside assistance at our facility to anyone in need of food and supplies. There are no residency restrictions—if you can reach us, we can serve you.
Emergency Food Assistance
Delivery
Our emergency food delivery service, initiated in 2021, caters exclusively to the most vulnerable members of our community, including the disabled, immunocompromised, and elderly. This service is available only to residents of Mecklenburg County.
Mobile Food Pantry
Our Mobile Food Pantry brings nutritious food directly to underserved areas and food deserts within our community. This initiative, started in 2022, ensures that individuals and families facing food insecurity have access to essential groceries and fresh produce, regardless of their location or mobility challenges. What We Offer Fresh Foods: We provide a variety of produce, meats, and other perishable items to promote healthy eating habits. Staple Foods: Non-perishable items such as grains, canned goods, and proteins are also distributed to ensure a well-rounded diet. Personal Care Items: We provide items such as toiletries and baby supplies.
Community Fridges
This program was initiated in December 2023. We have partnered with 3 community organizations to provide the community with convenient and reliable access to fresh, healthy food through our Community Fridges. These fridges are made possible through funding from a Mecklenburg County participatory grant and are maintained and stocked by Hearts and Hands Food Pantry. Why It Matters: Our goal is to increase food access in North Meck by creating self-service healthy food access points right in your community. Our vision is to expand this program throughout Mecklenburg County. These fridges complement existing food pantries and distribution sites, providing an additional resource for those in need. How It Works: Our fridges are housed and hosted by trusted community partner organizations who assist in the food distribution.
Food Banking
Our Food Banking service started in 2023. Hearts and Hands Food Pantry provides both perishable and non perishable items to partner organizations that have clients that have food needs. Why It Matters: There are many organizations that provide diverse services to clients that may have specific food needs. By serving as a food bank to these organizations, we help alleviate their burden and enable them to meet critical needs more effectively. How It Works: Interested organizations should contact us at help@heartsandhandsfoodpantry.com for more information.
